Personal Application of the Psychological and Spiritual Aspects of Healing

Unit 9

It is important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychological, spiritually, and physically because as the experts and professionals we should be able to master and guide others through this process which will contribute to their overall quality of life and assist them to flourish. If a health and wellness professional is not able to achieve this heighted-level of awareness or existence, and not able to educate others, then they would not serve any do purpose. The areas I need to develop to achieve the goals I have for myself are in all three areas. One cannot think they are perfect, so to embrace all aspects of life and work on them on a routine basis, I can achieve true human flourishing. Psychologically I can embrace many practice set forth by Dacher. Spiritually I know that there is a higher power out there, or even that we are all made up of the same thing and that’s energy. So channeling good energy, will only allow for good to come my way. Physically I need to continue keeping the body taught and in good shape. Respecting out bodies is something many need to be aware of; over eating in this country is a major disrespect to individuals and their own bodies.

I have assessed my health in each domain by the many exercises we have practiced and did reviews on. They have shaped my overall thinking and behavior towards myself. There we many opportunities during the exercises to actually take a look at how we have lived in our daily lives and how many adjustments were needed to achieve human flourishing, by just letting go of all negatives and things that make us suffer. Scoring my wellness spiritually is at an 80%, physically, 75%, and psychologically 85%. I give myself these scores because I know I am not perfect and there is much work that needs to be done so I can achieve full potential.

Strategies I can implement which will foster growth in my physical, psychological, and spiritual growth will be to allow time for self-awareness, physical and mental exercises. Physically I can work-out and maintain my own personal maintenance. Psychologically I will implement many of the exercises taught by Dacher and all the greatness that each practice brings. Our very life is energy and how we channel our energies result in the over quality of life we experience. Spiritually I know that life is more than what we can see, smell, and feel. Understanding our place in the universe and how every action we take plays in the very intricate web we are all in.

Maintaining an active log with serve a great purpose in documenting each practice or even for just writing what comes to mind and how I feel. My exercises needed to be added in a schedule which will assure that I utilize the little 24 hours we have in a day. For the next six months and at the end of each month I will review my data and analyze my current state. How have I been feeling? Am I improving in physical fitness? Are Dachers exercises helping?

Optimal Well-being: Psychological, Spiritual and Physical Keys to Health and Thriving

Unit 8

The two practices presented this term during HW420: Creating Wellness: Psychological and Spiritual Aspects of Healing that I have determined to be most beneficial are Subtle Mind, and Visualization. I will implement these practices in my personal life to foster “mental fitness”, by assuring time for myself (alone time) and to use this time for mental exercises like meditating and practicing some of the exercises presented by Dacher. Living holistically and giving attention to my internal self and nurturing myself from within I can only thrive not just for myself but for everyone else that is a part of my life. Those who have the opportunity to take this course or a course similar to it, I highly encourage you take this course and see the wonders it does not only for adding to your general body of knowledge but to truly direct your life toward wholeness, happiness and health - human flourishing.

Current Trends and Research Supporting the Mind-Body-Spirit Paradigm

Unit 7

Hello Everyone,

In practicing “Meeting Aesclepius”, I gained yet another heighted sense of awareness but this time I was engulfed in a physical sense of warmness all over. When asked to think of someone or something you cherish, honored, or made you feel happy, my mind went straight for the Sun. I felt alive, warm, energized, yet tranquil and I reached a sense of overall contentment and is something I want to foster in my everyday activities which contribute to my overall health and wellness. Though the Sun is anything and everything from calm and tranquil, I think channeling and focusing on this one element, allowed for me to engage stored energy and awareness. This exercise just like many which we have practice this term, are really aiding us in maintaining good health and allowing us to trigger mental states we have yet to understand.

Describing the saying: “One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself”, is that a person cannot give advices, examples or answers if we have not sought out to solve the problem, that would be a contradiction or weak words to give in confidence. As health and wellness professionals we should lead by example and have answers to questions in line or in research for quality/intellectual knowledge.

Exercises for Mind-Body-Spirit Wellness and Healing

Unit 6

Hello Everyone,

When going about the practice “The Universal Loving Kindness” exercise I found that I had rush of an overall filling of contentment, ease, and security. I can see those who are going through any current health issues may find the Integral Assessment discussed in chapter 11 as beneficial. Many people are scared to see a doctor and for that may lose a battle with a health ailment which may have been totally cured or treated. An area I chose to focus on growth and development is in my own personal life with my education and overall health. For the rest of my life I know I will be in some kind of educational setting, be it for continuing education credits or just to keep my mind active. Continuing to foster greater wellness in this area I know I will need embrace fully with maintaining still, and quiet time away from a bedtime setting. Also I can assure a long lived life by staying active, and staying far away from jobs which require you to be sitting for 6-8 hours a day. It’s just too unhealthy to have a desk job.

The Key Role of Thought in Wellness and Healing

Unit 5

Hello Everyone,

Comparing and contrasting on the Loving Kindness exercise and the Subtle Mind exercise, it’s apparent that the Loving Kindness exercise takes on a more caring, reaching out, and a more total connection type of approach, where I find the Subtle Mind to be that more about the individual and finding that equilibrium or feeling of overall wellbeing. When I first went about the Subtle Mind exercise I was just as relaxed and still as with the Loving Kindness but without the directions of having to reach out beyond one’s self, I was left with more of an awaking of past memories and especially that of when I lived in Atlantic City, NJ, along the shore. With the sounds of the oceans, I actually did experience smelling the ocean from within my bedroom and I’m now where near an ocean or open body of water, but it goes to show how well we can experience things and recollect on them.

The connection of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness, comes from our understanding of what we see, know, don’t see, and don’t know, and all of that plays a major roles in our overall health. With one’s develop throughout life and the experiences undergone, we come to an overall appreciation for the bigger picture of life. Starting from the body we master, to then understanding, is possible, the mind and finding ourselves to appreciate and understand all that we cannot see or are not able to make tangible. We've come to learn that from within we can heal and from that inner healing, we may become whole again.
